Yellow Vaginal Discharge

Yellow vaginal discharge is a common problem that happens either due to yeast infection or due to the any sexually transmitted disease. Vaginal discharge is a normal phenomenon but trouble arises when the vaginal discharge becomes stingy, discolored and thick. Yellow vaginal discharge includes dark yellow vaginal discharge, creamy yellow vaginal discharge etc.

Causes of Yellow Vaginal Discharge

It is not the color of discharge that changes; many times the discharge becomes creamy, sticky etc. Some of the causes are given as follows:

• Infection: The presence of yellow colored vagina indicates the presence of yeast in the vaginal tract. Many times, due to internal body heat, the color of vagina changes; the risk increases if along with the color, odor and consistency of the discharge also changes. Say for instance the vaginal discharge may become clumpy, thick and appears like cottage cheese with foul smell. Hence, this is a situation when one must visit a doctor.
• Cervicitis: This is actually an inflammation that occurs in the cervix, the end of uterus. Yellow vaginal discharge is one of the main symptoms of cervicitis. This disease mainly happens because of infection. In rare cases, it happens due to problems in the diaphragm, any sort of allergies due to condoms or spermicides and in rare cases exposure to harmful chemicals. This is a risky problem and often happens due to abnormal sexual behavior that harm woman’s organ. Proper treatment is generally required to cure this disease.  
• Vulvovaginitis: This trouble arises due to infection of the vagina and vulva. There are many other symptoms as well but creamy yellow vaginal discharge is one of them. This is a problem that can affect any woman regardless of age. The reason for this disease is the presence of bacteria, viruses, yeasts, several sexually transmitted diseases. Some of the other reasons are presence of chemicals in soaps, perfumes and bubble baths, various environmental factors like moisture, hygiene etc. Several topical creams are available to cure this infection.     
• Gonorrhea: This is one of the most common STD that happens due to the presence of bacteria neisseria gonorrhea. A bit dark yellow vaginal discharge is one of the most common symptoms of this STD.  Several treatments are available for this that can be taken directly from a drug shop however, it is better to consult your doctor. 
• Chlamydia: This infection happens due to the presence of bacterium chlamydia trachomatis. This is a normal infection and can be treated easily by taking few pills of antibiotics.

Treatments for Yellow Vaginal Discharge
There are several ways by which the yellow vaginal discharge problem can be treated easily. Mostly treatments that are present in home will be helpful but in severe cases one must visit doctor and must take medication as per the prescription. The problems that are caused by STD take special attention and cure. Some of the home treatments and medications are described as under:

• Medication: A woman suffering from recurrent yellow vaginal discharges with creamy or cheesy appearance and foul smell must visit the doctor at once. Proper dosage of medication will help a lot.
• Topical Creams: If any sort of infection is the cause then one can opt for antifungal creams to treat that problem. Such ointments must be prescribed by medical practitioners.
• Vagina must be washed and with water along with some garlic and apple cider vinegar. This mixture must be applied on private parts and left for few minutes. The discharge will be normal in a few days. If the problem persists then visiting doctor is the best option.
• The inner clothes must be of soothing linen and loose.
• Intake of buttermilk and consumption of yogurt on a daily basis helps a lot in treating yeast infections.
• Proper cleanliness during pregnancy, menstruation period and after sexual intercourse is also helpful.

Yellow vaginal discharge is a problem that can be treated easily and it is not a matter of risk until it is recurrent and smelly. Many times, even light fever can be a reason for change in color of the vaginal discharge.
